Downtown Blowing RockSummary:
This is a fun town to visit. Despite being in the mountains of North Carolina, it's really a town for all seasons.

In the winter it's the gateway to the ski areas. In the summer the town is a stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway and a cool getaway from the hot lower elevations. During the Christmas season people come to cut trees. And now in March, it's the home of the Blue Ridge Wine Festival.

parkHistory:
The name “Blowing Rock” is derived from a legendary story about two lovers from opposing Native American tribes. The pair was strolling on a mountainside when a fiery sky beckoned for the brave to leave his lover and return to his tribe.

Caught between a love for his companion and a commitment to his tribe, the man leapt from the edge of a boulder, falling far to the rocks below. The maiden stood on the rock that had just taken her lover's life and pleaded to the powers above to bring him back into her arms. The powerful winds of the John's River Gorge blew the young brave to her, and thus the legend of The Blowing Rock lives on.
